What should I do if my translation has issues like missing text or strange tags?

This article explains how to handle mistranslations, empty target segments, or formatting issues in Pairaphrase by switching Machine Translation (MT) engines.

Pairaphrase offers multiple MT engines to give you flexibility and accuracy. If you encounter issues such as:

  • Empty or partial translations in the target segment
  • Unnatural phrasing or incorrect terms
  • Strange formatting tags appearing in the output

…it might help to change the translation engine and retranslate the text or file.

Why this happens

Machine Translation output can vary by engine. Each engine (Google, Microsoft, DeepL, OpenAI) processes content differently - some may struggle with formatting tags, layout-specific code, or niche terminology.

Pairaphrase gives you full control over which engine you use for each translation, so you can choose the one that best fits your content type.

How to switch to another translation engine

  1. Log in to your Pairaphrase account.
  2. Click your name in the upper-right corner and go to your Profile.
  3. Select the Translation Engines tab.
  4. Choose your preferred engine from the list.
  5. Go back to your file and retranslate.

Will I lose translation credits if I retranslate?

No! If you’re retranslating a segment or document because of an issue caused by the MT engine or platform, Pairaphrase ensures you won’t be penalized. Retranslations due to technical issues do not count against your word usage.

Our team tracks and accommodates these scenarios - so you can focus on getting the right translation, not counting words.
