Why do I see symbols or squares instead of text in downloaded translations?

This article explains why symbols or squares may appear in downloaded translations for certain languages, and how to resolve the issue by adjusting the font style.

If you notice strange symbols (like little squares) replacing your translated text in downloaded documents, this may be caused by the font style—specifically italics—used in the original file.

This issue often occurs when translating into right-to-left (RTL) languages such as Arabic. Not all fonts support italic characters in these languages. As a result, when the translated text is displayed using an unsupported font style, it renders as symbols or boxes.

How can I fix it?

  1. Open the downloaded file.

  2. Select the symbols or boxes that appear in place of your text.

  3. Change the font style from italics to normal or regular.

Doing this will restore the correct characters and fix the display issue.
